“Whether I’m wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I’m always the same person inside.” – Lady Gaga
Beauty has always been more than skin deep—it's about feeling confident, empowered, and authentic, whether you're wearing makeup or going bare-faced.
Today, I wanted to explore how makeup can be a tool for transformation, creativity, and self-expression.
For the last five years or so, I didn’t intentionally follow the no-makeup trends, but my skincare and makeup routines have been very minimalistic. When my child was in the newborn to toddler phase, I couldn’t even think about wearing makeup or taking care of myself. Moreover, over the past year, I’ve experienced allergy breakouts with many skincare and makeup products. As my dermatologist advised, I use Aquaphor as my only skincare product these days. Because of this, I limit myself to wearing makeup only for special occasions.
Even when I regularly wore makeup, I often skipped it on weekends if I wasn’t going out—partly to rest my skin, and partly to relax and embrace my natural self.
Not wearing makeup daily has its perks. It’s easy and saves time, which I love. But I also admit that at times, I feel like I’m missing something, almost as if I’m not fully myself or fully functioning. Even though makeup is something you only see when you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror, its effects on how you feel can last all day.
Putting on makeup is definitely magical. It can set you up with a vibe and give you a sense of power.
Many women feel the same way. According to a YouGov article, 49% of women say they wear makeup to boost their confidence.
After wearing makeup for over two decades, I’ve started thinking more about how makeup and skincare can be part of embracing my daily life. Could I turn the process into a self-care ritual—one that enhances how I feel about myself?
Reflecting on my own experiences, I began to reconsider what beauty truly means and how makeup fits into that definition. To explore this idea further, I’ve gathered some powerful quotes from individuals in the beauty industry and beyond. These quotes celebrate the many facets of beauty, from makeup as a creative outlet to the power of feeling comfortable in your own skin. They remind us that beauty is not just about what we see, but how we choose to express and embrace our true selves.
